After update, product nolonger works

In January 2011, I purchased a refurbished Apple MacBook Pro for a private retailer. At the time of purchase, I had him install Adobe and Microsoft products on the laptop. Today while working on a project and using Adobe Photoshop, I received an error message stating that something was missing and to do a product update. After the completion of the update, I could nolonger use Adobe Photoshop and it downloaded Photoshop CS5 which now wants to to purchase. I already owned Photoshop, that worked perfectly fine for my needs. I do not want this new product. I called in to Adobe and spoke to someone who was very unhelpful and keep telling me that I need the serial number. I explained to him that the software was installed on the laptop at the time of purchase and shipped to me already loaded on it. I did not receive the physical software at the time of purchase of the laptop. He told me to contact the retailer that I purchased the laptop from. As of Feburary 2013, that retailer was nolonger in business and I have no way of contacting them. I don't feel that it is fair to me that I have to repurchase a product that I purchased already 2 years, 7 months ago. Where do I find the Product Serial Number to reactivate the Photoshop CS5 or how do I uninstall Photoshop CS5 and go back to the version of Adobe Photoshop that I was previously using?
