Using Windows 10, Photoshop CC 2017 having some strange issues that I believe are linked to some needed Windows folders being read only despite all of my various attempts to unlock them or give myself permission despite being the administrator and having full control + read/write permissions.

 

Here are some strange symptoms I'm getting:

 

•Photoshop is not saving any of my preferences

 

•When I make a new action and click Stop Recording I get "Could not complete your request because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the Properties command in Windows explorer to unlock the file.

 

•Often when I open Photoshop I cannot create a new file. New will be greyed out and if it's not grey, I click it, nothing happens, and then it is greyed out after that. Sometimes after a computer restart PS will work properly as far as opening and creating new files.

 

•Audition would not even open but would display a file locked type error until it's most recent update.

 

 

Here's what I've tried to do:

•Go in to /AppData/Roaming and open the Properties dialog for Adobe folder. It shows Read Only as checked so I uncheck that and click apply. Then I get "You will need administrator permission to change these attributes". However I AM the administrator! I click Continue and it goes through all the sub files and directories as if it's changing them all to read write but once I Ok out of the dialog and go back to Properties - Read only is once again checked and no change in PS.

I've also trying going to the what I think is the exact preferences file and unlocking that but same problem.

 

•Going back to Properties of that Adobe folder (which I believe contains the preferences files and actions etc.) I go to Security and see all 3 entries (SYSTEM, Daniel Grove, and Administrator) as having Full Control, Modify, Read, and Write all the boxes are already checked with none under Deny. So I SHOULD have full read write access, but I don't.

 

•Holding CTRL+ALT+SHIFT to open Photoshop it does open with a dark layout which is the preference I chose like 2 versions ago before all these problems. So that is a good sign to me but then as soon as I click on anything PS will stop responding and instantly be forced to close!

 

•I did a reinstall of PS and the problem persists.

I haven't upgraded Photoshop since CS6 and was just wondering if Photoshop allows "smart masks" yet? For me, this is the only major thing Photoshop is missing.

 

Let me just clarify a few key reasons why I want this feature...

 

1. Transform with no loss of quality
"Smart masks" would allow you to scale and rotate masks with no loss of quality! This means you can enlarge a mask slightly, then rotate it slightly, then shrink it again, all without having to re-draw the mask every time.

 

2. Perfect with Smart Objects
Normally, if a smart object has a mask, then you can't scale or rotate the smart object without having to re-draw the mask from scratch. But with smart masks, this problem would disappear - you could scale and rotate the smart objects as much as you like, with no loss of quality to its mask.

 

3. Update multiple masks at once
You could apply a smart mask to multiple layers, and then any changes you make to it would apply to all the layers which use it.

 

4. Animated mask movement
Smart masks would allow smart objects to be scaled or rotated in an animation. Currently, anything with a mask cannot be scaled or rotated in an animation. (And before you recommend I use Premiere for animation - no, Premiere is good for general video editing but it is TERRIBLE software for animating objects, and does not even support simple things like layer groups, selecting and transforming multiple objects at once, relative transforming (it uses absolute coordinates), pixel positioning, or bitmap masking. Even displaying images at 1:1 size is virtually impossible. This is why I use Photoshop for animation.)

I've been trying to fix this Photoshop CC error for hours on end but it just won't go away. When attempting to import media through the timeline or import through video frames to layers, I get the error "Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because DynamicLink is not available."

 

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, I've tried restarting my computer, I tried closing it and waiting to reopen it again, I've gone through countless forum threads looking for answers, I've tried installing DynamicLink updates from the Adobe website (after which it just errors/cancels and tells me something along the lines of "This update is not for you") I don't know what to do at this point! Nobody else's solutions have helped me so now I feel like I'm on my own unless someone can help me.

 

It used to work in the past but now it just.. doesn't. I use a Windows 8.1 PC. Please help if you can, I'm at my wits end.

A client wants some logos I designed for him on a white background. Now he would like to change the color of the background for different uses. He would like me to send him the design on a transparent background. I explained he would need a program that recognizes transparency and he said it wouldn't be a problem. What would be the best format to send him the images in? PSD, Tiff or PNG? Thanks!

My pen has weird/unbalanced pen pressure sensitivity in Adobe photoshop cs6. For some reason, it always produces these shapes (see below images) when I make simple strokes. It appears that the entire "spectrum" of pen pressure (from light to firm) is squeezed into the "light" pressure end. Adjusting the firm/soft setting of my pen tablet doesn't help -- the brush strokes are still unsmooth.

Hi,

I have such problem with extract:

When I turn on invisible layer - all .psd became invisible. It's imposible to work with it...

Reloading of the page resets all layers to it's default value.

Help, please

When I drag a window partially offscreen on my main display in the direction of my secondary display, I get big black bands across the image. This only happens when I drag a window partially offscreen towards the left side of my main display, so that (when dragging) a ghost image appears on my secondary display. This only happens in this one particular case, when a window is partially offscreen from my main display in the direction of my secondary display.

This is what the window looks like:

And this is an attempt to show where the window is relative to my screens (gray squares = invisible except when dragging the window):

Is anyone else having this problem? Can someone who has two screens test and see if this can be easily replicated? I don't know whether this is a new bug in Photoshop or is unique to my system (ie, probably something is corrupted on my computer). I have "Displays have separate Spaces" ON in System Preferences:Mission Control.

I've watched the wonderful classes John Derry instructed for Lynda.com and I had a question concerning clone brushes. I'd like to use other brushes when digital painting with the Mixer Brush cloning action (for example Kyle Webster's great brushes) and was wondering if there was a way to either copy these brushes and convert or create clone brushes from these.

Normally to do a fill on photoshop (CS6 Mac version) I just select an area & hit backspace/delete & the fill option menu comes up. That still works on older photos but now on newer photos, whether its a desktop screenshot, image from the net, or camera hitting backspace on an area now actually deletes that portion of the image revealing the checkerboard background. Why is this happening?

does anyone know of a digital background software I can use in real time? I am doing a Christmas photo shoot of 100+ people and want to be able to take and save pictures with a Christmas background and not have to individually drop the background in afterwards.

I just updated to the newest version of Photoshop and am having an issue I have never had before. The edited images look great on my screen, however when I upload them they turn PURPLE. Is there a setting that I need to change to fix this? Has this happened to anyone else and how did you fix it?

I have to do in essay about Photoshop and I thought about putting the picture ''Jennifer in paradise'' the first photoshopped image. It was taken by John Knoll in 1987. The problem is I can't find if I can use this photo. Is there a copyright? My essay will only be shown to approximately 5 people.

Hello,

 

So I recently got creative cloud and have only used photoshop a handful of times to create an animated gif. When I recently tried to open up photoshop this is all I 

could see -

When I went file -> New ->

I'm scared to mess around and I have tried restarting it entirely.

(Also,  can open previously saved projects).

 

If it helps I'm on a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.11.6

 

Much appreciated if anyone could help me here, I'm an adobe n00b.

Hello

 

I have a problem with video exporting from Photoshop CC, the colors are washed out. I tried to find what is the problem and it looks like it is a H.264 gamma bug. Every single video I export, from whatever video editor program has the same issue. I tried Photoshop, which i used in the past and had no problems, Davinci Resolve, Filmorama and the problem remains. I would like to stick with my PS  for video editing (i know it is not dedicated video editor) but it serves my neeeds well, but need to fix this gama problem. I´m on PC using Windows 10. Can you help me please? Thank you

I just bought Photoshop CC to use for personal use, I let the file download from the site after i finished processing the payment. Everything downloaded fine but the exe download setup won't open for me. waiting for customer care to help me but has anyone else had this problem?

So, I'm trying to make a content awareness scale video. So, I installed the script correctly, seems to work fine. but loading menus takes 1 to 24 mins.

help please - I'm an amateur photographer and always shoot in raw i have a Canon 5d mk III and since adobe updated photoshop to cc 2017 i can't open my CR2 raw files. Can anyone please offer assistance?

 

When i click on the CR2 files - a message comes up from photoshop - could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file.

Previously all my CR2 files would open direct to the raw settings and then straight into photoshop.
